When John and Carol moved into their new home with their beautiful dogs, they had a clear vision in mind: a low-maintenance, Mediterranean-inspired garden where they could relax and unwind. The brief included removing all existing grass, introducing dog-friendly planting, and creating inviting spaces to sit and enjoy the garden throughout the day.
While some paved areas were to remain and a series of raised beds needed replacing, the rest of the design was left in our hands — a wonderful opportunity to reimagine the space.
The wrap-around garden offered a variety of conditions, from sun-drenched corners to cooler, shaded spots — perfect for both people and their dogs to escape the heat. We embraced this by layering the design with structure and interest: small trees to soften the space, climbers to bring vertical greenery and pleached trees to create a sense of privacy from neighbouring properties. A calming water feature added a gentle focal point, enhancing the tranquil, Mediterranean feel.
Working alongside ‘C Allen Groundworks and Landscaping’, who expertly brought the design to life, the garden quickly began to take shape. Seeing the transformation unfold from paper to reality is always rewarding, but this project felt particularly special.
John and Carol were a joy to work with from start to finish—warm, trusting and fully engaged in the process. They even invited us back to source and install the planting, allowing the design to be realised exactly as intended.
